Our Auditions

The Bronx Opera Company (BxO) announces auditions, by appointment, for our Spring 2017 English-language production of Verdi’s Falstaff. The production continues BxO’s 50th Season, and will be fully staged with costumes, orchestra and chorus. No fee is charged, and a modest honorarium to cover expenses will be provided. The production will be directed by Rod Gomez.

For your information, the broad-strokes production schedule is as follows:

Music rehearsals will begin in mid-to-late February, running through approximately the end of March. Staging will commence, through April 20. Sitzprobes, full run-throughs and tech will continue, culminating in performances on April 29th, April 30th, May 6th, May 7th, and May 8th. The first two performances will be at the Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College, in The Bronx; the last two will be at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, in Manhattan.

Auditions will be held on the evenings of Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, January 16th and 17th, 2017 from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. An accompanist will be provided. All roles are open, and BxO policy is to double cast (and have covers) when appropriate.

Please e-mail your materials (resume, picture and a recording or a link to one) to us at BronxOperaAuditions@gmail.com. In your e-mail, please let us know which night (if either) is preferable for you. Also, please include your phone number in the body of the e-mail. BxO’s Artistic Director, Michael Spierman, will call all of those chosen to audition to finalize an appointment time. You will be asked to perform an aria in the style of Falstaff (or from Falstaff), in English.

We hope that you will pass the above information along to any interested persons whom you may know, even if there is no role for you (or you are unable to be part of Falstaff).

In addition, if you or anyone you know is interested in auditioning for the Bronx Opera Chorus, please e-mail Michael Haigler at bronxoperachorus@gmail.com.

In addition, we hope that you’ll join us at one (or more) performances of our winter production of Vaughan Williams’ Sir John in Love. The Vaughan Williams will be performed January 14th and 15th at the Lovinger Theater, and will be repeated January 21st and 22nd at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College.

Thank you for your interest in Bronx Opera, and we look forward to receiving your materials.
