The Bronx Opera Company (BxO) announces auditions for our 2025 productions of:

HANSEL AND GRETEL

full performances: January 31 & February 2

abridged student matinee: January 30

and

COSÌ FAN TUTTE

by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

full performances: April 26 & 27; May 3 & 4

abridged student matinee: May 1

All performances take place at the Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College, in The Bronx.

These productions will be presented in English. No audition fee is charged, and each principal artist will receive $500. Covers (for each production) will receive $400, and chorus (for Così) will receive $300. Così covers will sing in the chorus. We plan to single-cast all principal roles in Hansel and Gretel, and double-cast all principal roles in Così fan tutte.

 

Applications must be received by Sunday, September 15 at 11:59pm ET.
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. 

Both productions will be directed by Benjamin Spierman.

 

For your information, the broad-strokes production schedule is as follows (some dates may change slightly):

HANSEL AND GRETEL

  • Music rehearsals: 8 to 10 dates between December 9th & 22nd.
  • Staging rehearsals: January 3rd thru 18th.
  • Sitzprobes, tech & dress rehearsals: January 19th thru 30th.
  • Performances: Thursday, January 30th @ 11am (abridged student matinee, performed by covers); Friday, January 31st (7:30pm) & Sunday, February 2nd (2:30pm)

 

COSÌ FAN TUTTE

  • Music rehearsals: 10 to 12 dates between March 3rd & 23rd.
  • Staging rehearsals (including double-run thru): March 24th thru April 12th.
  • Easter week break: April 13th thru April 19th (with a sitzprobe on April 18th).
  • Sitzprobes: April 18th & 21st.
  • Tech & dress rehearsals: April 22nd thru 25th.
  • Performances: Saturday, April 26th (7:30pm) & Sunday, April 27th (2:30pm); Thursday, May 1st @ 11am (abridged student matinee, performed by covers); Saturday, May 3 (7:30pm) & Sunday, May 4 (2:30pm)

 

All rehearsals take place on weekday evenings and weekends, primarily in north Bronx locations. Rehearsals will be scheduled after cast conflicts are known. 

 

 

Auditions for both productions will be held by invitation only, at the Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College, in The Bronx, on the evenings of 

Monday, October 7th, 

Tuesday, October 8th, and Wednesday, October 9th.

To be considered for an audition, please submit your materials (résumé, headshot, and 2–3 links to audio or video recordings) via the following Google form, and answer all questions therein:

As the application form indicates, we’re looking for 2–3 recordings of arias or songs of your choice that show vocal skills similar to those of the role(s) for which you would like to be considered, at least one of which must be in English. Your English-language selection may be a song/aria in translation or a song/aria originally written in English; your English-language selection need not be from Hansel and Gretel or Così fan tutte. Please indicate which roles you are interested in, and whether you’re generally interested in being considered for Hansel, for Così, or for both.

If you are out of town or otherwise unavailable to sing for us on any of the listed audition dates, please tell us this in your answer to the final question on the application form. For a limited number of exceptional artists, we may be able to work out an alternative or virtual audition plan, to be able to hear and consider you for our productions.
